FreeB is a Little Language
FreeB is a programming language, specifically it is a little language. Programming Languages like Perl, Java and C are all what is known as Turing Complete which means (the basterdized version) that they can compute anything that is computable. But we all know that there are great differences between different languages, most of us have opinions about which languages are best. The difference between computer languages is not what they DO but what they make EASY.
FreeB for medical billing
FreeB is a computer language designed to make medical billing easy. FreeB is a seperate project from FreeMED, it is a meta-project, much like OpenSSH is a meta-project of OpenBSD It is intended for use by other Free and Open Source Practice Management Systems. (Take a look at the Other FOSS link on FreeMED.org) The reason for this is simple, Medical Billing is really really hard. It is made hard artifically by thousands of very small variations required by different payors. In order to really get a strong handle on medical billing, there needs to be...
FreeB Goals
That is, in a few words the defined goals of the FreeB project. So far, FreeB is implemented in Perl and compiles to Perl. The code is in alpha, but the syntax is finished and mostly working, and the API is almost defined. Currently we have formats for HCFA and X12.
You can read more about them in FreeBsyntax and FreeBapi respectively.
FreeB was recently released and can be found here
